On the morning of September 5th 2017, Mr. Matsuda, Professor of English Department, Director of Arizona State University Second Language Writing Center, Founding Chair and Executive Chair of International Second Language Writing Symposium, was invited to our school to give a lecture entitled "The Presence of the Teacher: Achieving Excellence in Language Instruction". Before the lecture, Vice Rector Cao Guohong met with Prof. Matsuda in the office building. On behalf of the university, he expressed his welcome and gratitude to Prof. Matsuda for his visit and lecture, and hoped that the two universities would cooperate and exchange in many aspects in the future. The lecture was hosted by Wu Baoming, Director of the School of International Education, and many teachers were present to listen to the lecture. During the lecture, Professor Matsuda used the question "Who are you in the classroom? As a foreign language teacher, the core issue of improving the effectiveness of foreign language teaching is the cultivation and development of one's own quality and ability. He believes that in language teaching, if teachers lack knowledge of the nature of teaching and the teaching process, and lack the ability to renew themselves, it is not conducive to improving students' language communication skills. Professor Matsuda also gave a lecture on language teaching and learning, which was based on his rich teaching experience and vivid classroom cases. Professor Matsuda also explained the practical application of contextual teaching for all teachers with his rich teaching experience and vivid classroom cases. In the discussion session after the lecture, Prof. Matsuda interacted with the teachers in the audience and answered their practical problems in linguistic research and foreign language teaching. Accompanied by Dean Wu Baoming of the College of International Education, Professor Matsuda also visited our high speed railway training base andwas impressed by our advanced training facilities and spoke highly of them.
