In order to enrich the cultural life of the campus, stimulate students' interest in learning English and cultivate their intercultural communication skills, the first English Culture Week hosted by the Department of International Cooperation (Department of Foreign Language Teaching) was officially opened in the Gymnasium Auditorium in the afternoon of Nov. 5th. Vice Rector Zhou Shiqing attended the opening ceremony, and foreign language teachers, foreign teachers and more than 300 students attended the opening ceremony, including the heads of Academic Affairs Office, Academic Staff Office, Quality Control Office, Youth League Committee, International Cooperation Department (Foreign Language Teaching Department) and other relevant departments.
Mr.Zhou announced the opening of English Culture Week and delivered a speech. He pointed out that with the globalization of the world economy and the continuous development of China's economy and society, the country needs a large number of high-quality talents who have an international perspective, are familiar with international rules and regulations, and are familiar with Chinese and Western cultures. By learning English well and improving intercultural communication skills, higher vocational students can better contribute to the modernization of the motherland and lay a good foundation for their own sustainable development. He hoped that this English Culture Week would become a big stage to stimulate students' interest in learning English, showcase their English talents, and promote interaction and cultural exchange between Chinese and foreign teachers and students. Finally, he wished the first English Culture Weeka complete success.
The opening ceremony kicked off with a chorus of English songs by all the students and teachers. The person in charge of the Department of International Cooperation (Foreign Language Teaching Department) extended a warm welcome to the leaders, teachers and students attending the opening ceremony, and introduced the practices and achievements of our college in deepening the reform of college English teaching, carrying out tiered teaching, striving to build a college English curriculum system with higher vocational characteristics, strengthening the English grade examination, actively organizing various English competitions and extracurricular activities, and introducing the activities of this English Culture Week. The opening ceremony was followed by the opening ceremony of the English Culture Week.
After the opening ceremony, Robbie, a foreign teacher from the United States, gave a lecture on English and American culture to the students. He introduced the geographic location, customs, history and culture, politics and economy of the United States and the differences between Chinese and Western cultures. During the interactive session, students asked questions and the atmosphere was warm. Through the lecture, students learned about American culture and broadened their international horizon and benefited a lot.
This English Culture Week will carry out various forms of English activities one after another, including English translation skill competition, English speech competition, English corner, English excellent movie exhibition, English culture knowledge competition, etc. The English Culture Week will further stimulate students' interest in learning English, enhance their international awareness, broaden their international perspective, and improve their ability to use English in a comprehensive manner.
