Nanjing Vocational Institute of Railway Technology (NIRT) is a full-time state-run polytechnic. It is located in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta , a historical and cultural city--Nanjing which boasts the most developed economy and the highest level of railway development in China,. Founded in 1941, the institute has a reputation for cultivating a large number of outstanding railway technology and management talents. NIRT is the construction unit of high-level vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province, national high-quality vocational colleges, and high-level vocational colleges with Chinese characteristics and specialty group.
NIRT has seven secondary schools, namely the School of Transportation Management, the School of Communication and Signaling, the School of Rolling Stock and Vehicles, the School of Power Supply and Engineering, the School of Finance and Logistics Management, the School of Intelligence Engineering, the School of Architecture, Art and Design. There are six teaching departments, e.g. the School of Marxism and the School ofInternational Education. It has opened majors in operation and management of railway transportation, high-speed EMU maintenance technology, accounting, animation design and production for the rail transit industry and the regional economy.
NIRT has continuously deepened the integration of production and education, school-enterprise cooperation, and has received strong support from the government, industry and enterprises. The institute has cooperated with various railway enterprises to build a high-speed railway teaching station with full-real equipment and simulation operation and a national-level high-speed railway train dispatching training base which is the only one that connects the railway line and allows train running on campus. It is equipped with true high-speed rail equipment which provides the national first-class training conditions with the integrated six systems of high-speed railway. It has become a "Jiangsu railway personnel training base", a designated training unit for the China Railway and an international talent training base for the International Association of Transport Universities of Asian-Pacific Countries.
The institute actively builds an international cooperation and exchange platform, and strengthens cooperation and exchanges with transportation universities and rail transit enterprises along the “Belt and Road”. NIRT is a vice-chairman unit of the International Federation of Eurasian Transportation Universities, a member unit of the Sino-Russian Transportation Principals Alliance Management Committee, a vice chairman unit of the Sino-Russian Transportation University Presidents Union, the chairman unit of China Rail Transit Technical Talents Training Alliance, the secretariat unit of the China-ASEAN Rail Transit Education and Training Alliance. From 2017 to 2019, our institute successfully cohosted the "Belt and Road" rail transit education and school-enterprise cooperation dialogue and the annual meeting of China-ASEAN Rail Transit Education and Training Alliance for three consecutive years. The construction and operation of the international platform has effectively promoted the cooperation among China's railway higher vocational colleges, railway enterprises and foreign universities, and helped schools and enterprises to go global together, which has laid a good foundation for the development goal of building an excellent new NIRT with Chinese characteristics and world standards.
